Minnows are a small but pretty native UK freshwater fish with green/dark olive colouring along their sides and striped banding, minnows are distinctive fish. They rarely exceed 8cm in length. Minnows are widespread in freshwater streams, rivers, canals and some lakes in the UK. This diminutive fish forms large shoals on the waters they reside in. They adapt to well oxygenated ponds and aquaria but are best kept in numbers due to their shoaling behaviour.
